The Idea and the Start

'Action is Eloquence' William Shakespeare, Coriolanus
When I woke up one morning, in the space between Christmas and New year in 2014, I moaned to my husband about the fact that for yet another year, my Christmas had been and gone... Lost in the dark of being backstage at a theatre.
As everyone who works in the business knows, it's just one of those things. You feel kind of lucky to have the work, and if you weren't working than you'd be worrying about not working... so it's for the best- right?
Well, Christmas is my favourite time of year, and I think it must have really gotten to me that day (it could've been the fact that my husband was in his second week of Christmas time off, or because I just wanted to stay at home and eat leftovers), but I remember it vividly. I just said No. No, I don't want this anymore. I love Christmas too much! (and then I had Breakfast and went in to work). But that day has stayed with me, because it was the day I decided to stop talking and start the action. If I really didn't want to do this anymore, then I'd have to do something about it.
So I started planning, lots of planning. Lots of talking, and checking that my idea wasn't a crazy one, and very quickly I decided that this was what I was going to do. I was going to start a Haberdashery shop.
Sewing is what I know the most about. I might not know everything - there's too much, but it's what I do, day in, day out. SEW. And what I don't know, I ask. I learn from my friends, from colleagues, everyone!
The idea was (and still is) that I specialise in theatre/costume/wardrobe haberdashery, because even though I felt like my life needed to change, I love that world, and would hate to loose it. So hopefully this way, I'll keep in touch, and I'll supply you all with those pesky bits and bobs that are hard to find in quantities you want, and with a  friendly hello along the way.
So, in January we started, and now, after months of finding stock, learning how to take photos, building a website (thanks Pete), and lots and lots of counting, here we are.
There may not be everything, quite yet... I have sky high ambitions, but not sky high investment, and so it will come...eventually. I'm just trusting that you guys will stick with me on this one. I'm planning dyes, starches, insoles, heel grips, laundry bags... the list goes on, but I have to call it a day somewhere, and for now, this is it. Basics are covered, but it's only going to get bigger and better from here on in.
And it doesn't stop at this web site either, I have other (more secret) plans and Ideas for the future... but for now, the web site is my focus. It's a start, and I'm learning a lot as I go.
So now, it starts. 'Action is Eloquence'
